The Ramganga River is the main lifeline of
Corbett
Tiger Reserve and supports a wide array of aquatic life forms
within it. Common Otters (Lutra lutra monticola), Mugger (Crocodylus palustris), the
Fish-eating Gharial (Gavialis
gangeticus) and Fish Eagles are just a few, who benefit
from this perennial source. Famed for the 'Mighty Mahseer', the
fighting fish, it is one of the finest rivers of north India
for anglers. The largest Mahseer (Barbus tor) catch in the last
few years weighed 65lbs. Other species on this river include
the Goonch, Malee (Wallago attu), Rohu and Trout in certain
sections.
Using Camp Forktail Creek as
the base, one can opt for multi-day fishing trips on various stretches of the Ramganga River.
These trips are escorted by our fishing guides - some of
the finest in the area, and involve overnight camping by the
river, on it's upper stretches. Besides angling on the
Ramganga River (a sample tour plan for which is listed below)a
we also customize itineraries for the Kali -
Sarda River in the eastern Kumaon Himalayas.
