Our Special Trips - Elephant Safaris
Swaying gently on the back of a pachyderm tramping through
dense forests is a unique experience. Not only does it afford a
completely different new way of observing wildlife, it is also a
great way to bond with the 'lord of the jungle’.
Camp Forktail Creek organizes short (two-hour) as well as multi-
day safaris on elephant back, through the dense jungles of the
Corbett Tiger Reserve.
Multi-day elephant-backed safaris are only permitted in one
particular area of the Tiger Reserve, not famous for its game
because of the terrain, but with good moist forests, great for
birds. It starts from the north-eastern periphery of the reserve
at Durgadevi Gate and (depending on the length of the trip)
continues along the northern boundary ending at Halduparao on
the north-western boundary.
Besides being in the forest on elephant back, learning how to
ride it, bathe it and bond with it, the trip could also include
game drives into the Tiger Reserve, hikes for bird-watching,
visits to local villages…
